Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun?
All three work. The rates below apply from any of them - what changes is the drive on day one and how much you pay for the convenience.
| Starting point | Why people choose it | Rate vs the others |
|---|---|---|
| Haridwar | Railhead - trains from Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata terminate here | Highest, especially May-June |
| Rishikesh | Saves ~1 hour; skips the slow Haridwar-Rishikesh stretch | Usually a little softer |
| Dehradun | Jolly Grant airport; fast highway for the first 45 km | Between the two |
What a Char Dham taxi actually costs
Rates are quoted per day, and the day rate is what everything else is built from.
| Vehicle | Seats | Market rate per day |
|---|---|---|
| Swift Dzire / Etios (sedan) | 4 | Rs 4,000 - 5,500 |
| Ertiga | 6 | Rs ~5,500 |
| Innova Crysta (SUV) | 6-7 | Rs 5,500 - 8,000 |
| Tempo Traveller | 12 | Rs 8,500 - 12,000 |
For the full four-shrine circuit, which runs 10 to 12 days from Haridwar:
| Vehicle | Group | Full circuit, 10 days |
|---|---|---|
| Sedan | 4 | Rs 24,000 - 30,000 |
| Innova Crysta | 6 | Rs 35,000 - 44,000 |
| Tempo Traveller | 10-12 | Rs 60,000 - 85,000 |
These are current market figures, not our quote - your actual price depends on dates, group size and how much of the extras list below is inside the number.
The extras are where quotes diverge
Watch what is quoted *outside* the headline number. Across the market, tolls, the driver's night halt, hill permits, parking and GST are billed on top and add roughly Rs 8,000-15,000 to the final bill, with a further Rs 5,000-10,000 surcharge in the May-June peak. Ask any operator - including us - to confirm in writing what is inside the quote before you pay a deposit.
What decides your price
- Vehicle. A sedan and a 16-seat Tempo Traveller are different quotes entirely, and
- Season. May-June peak sits well above September for the identical run.
- Days on the road. The circuit is 10-12 days; driver night halts are part of the cost.
- Where you start. Haridwar is the railhead and the busiest, so it prices highest.
Why book this with an operator rather than at a taxi stand
A stand driver quotes a number and works out the route afterwards. The Char Dham roads are not forgiving of that - Sonprayag has a vehicle barrier, Badrinath runs on army convoy timings past Joshimath, and the Yamunotri and Gangotri valleys do not connect directly. We run these roads ourselves and price the actual itinerary.
Our own packages start at Rs 24,999 for Do Dham and Rs 42,999 for the full Char Dham circuit, per person, which includes the vehicle rather than leaving it as a separate bill.
