About Kedarkantha Trek
Kedarkantha is Uttarakhand's favourite winter trek. The route starts at Sankri village (1,920 m) in the Tons valley and climbs through dense pine and oak forest to Juda Ka Talab (3,100 m), a shallow lake that freezes solid in winter. Camp here and push for the summit the next morning.
The Kedarkantha summit at 3,810 m rewards with a sweeping view of seven Himalayan peaks including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag and Kedarnath. The descent returns through Hargaon to Sankri. The trail is well-marked and the altitude gain is gradual, making it a strong choice for first-time snow trekkers.
