About Brahmatal Trek

Brahmatal is a winter trek that begins and ends at Lohajung, the same base as Roopkund. Unlike its famous neighbour, Brahmatal is suited for beginners: the altitude stays below 4,000 m and the trail gradient is forgiving. The payoff is a frozen lake at 3,800 m sitting below Trishul (7,120 m) and Nanda Ghunti (6,309 m) — two of the clearest close-up views available on a short Uttarakhand trek.

The route passes Bekaltal lake, camped at by most operators for its dramatic evening reflections. Snow usually blankets the upper trail from December through March. The forest through oak and rhododendron holds snow well, making the trail photogenic even on the lower sections.
