About Har Ki Dun Trek

Har Ki Dun is a cradle-shaped hanging valley in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, tucked below the Swargarohini massif. The trek passes through two ancient villages — Osla and Gangad — where stone houses with ornate wooden balconies have stood for centuries. Local communities still follow traditional Jaunsari customs.

The valley floor at 3,566 m is carpeted with alpine flowers in May and June. An optional side trip from camp climbs to the frozen Ruinsara lake (3,900 m). This is one of the few Uttarakhand treks where genuine village stays are possible; most trekkers combine both camping and guesthouse nights.
