Nanda Devi is the highest peak entirely within Indian territory — Kangchenjunga is higher but sits on the Nepal border. It stands at 7,816 m in Chamoli district, enclosed by a near-continuous ring of peaks that forms the Nanda Devi Sanctuary.
The sanctuary has been closed to expeditions and trekkers since 1983 to let the ecosystem recover, and the inner core remains a no-entry zone of the UNESCO-listed Nanda Devi National Park. Nobody can sell you a climb of it.
What you can do is see it. The classic viewpoints are Auli and Gorson Bugyal in Garhwal, and from Kumaon the sunrise line-up at Binsar, Kausani and Munsiyari.
