Tempo Traveller for Char Dham 2026: 12, 17 & 26 Seater | Rates & Booking Guide

A Tempo Traveller is the sensible choice once a group passes six or seven people. Per head it works out cheaper than two sedans, everyone travels together, and the 12- and 16-seat versions have the luggage space a 10-day circuit actually needs. The trade-off is pace - a Tempo Traveller is slower on the hairpins above Rudraprayag than an Innova.

Per head that is the cheapest way to run the circuit. A 12-seater at Rs 75,000 split across ten paying passengers is Rs 7,500 each for all transport across ten days.

What a Tempo Traveller is and is not good at

Good: luggage space for a 10-12 day circuit, the group stays together, and the per-head cost falls sharply above six travellers. Push-back seats and a proper aisle matter on days that run nine hours.

Less good: it is slower than an Innova on the hairpins above Rudraprayag, and on the narrow Yamunotri and Gangotri approaches a 16-seater loses time at every passing point. For groups of six or seven, two Innovas often reach the shrine earlier than one Tempo.

Before you book one

Confirm the seat count you are paying for. A "12-seater" sometimes means 12 including

the driver and a helper, which is 10 passengers.

Ask whether it is a push-back or a bench layout. On this circuit it matters.

Watch what is quoted *outside* the headline number. Across the market, tolls, the driver's night halt, hill permits, parking and GST are billed on top and add roughly Rs 8,000-15,000 to the final bill, with a further Rs 5,000-10,000 surcharge in the May-June peak. Ask any operator - including us - to confirm in writing what is inside the quote before you pay a deposit.
