Deoria Tal is a serene lake at 2,438 m in the Rudraprayag district, best known for its near-perfect reflection of the Chaukhamba massif in the Garhwal Himalaya. The lake is reached by a 3 km trail from Sari village, itself about 12 km from Ukhimath on the Chopta road. The path rises steadily through dense rhododendron and oak forest — rhododendrons are in full bloom from late March to May, painting the hillside red and pink. At the top, the lake appears suddenly in a small grassy bowl, and on calm mornings the snow peaks above Badrinath reflect clearly in the dark water.
Camping is permitted on the grassy banks and is popular with photographers chasing the dawn reflection shot. The Forest Department regulates the number of tents allowed at any one time. Deoria Tal is often combined with the Tungnath–Chandrashila circuit as part of a 3–4 day Chopta trip. The return to Sari village takes about 1.5 hours. Sari has basic guesthouses and dhabas; better facilities are available at Chopta, 14 km further on the main road.

Background
History of Deoria Tal
Deoria Tal is mentioned in the Mahabharata as the lake where the Yaksha questioned the Pandavas — a passage known as the Yaksha Prashna. The lake is thus considered sacred by Hindus, and the name "Deoria" is believed to derive from "Dev" (divine).
The trail from Sari has been used by herders and pilgrims for centuries. The site became widely known to trekkers and photographers in the 2010s when improved road access to Sari and the proliferation of social media images of the Chaukhamba reflection brought it national attention.
