Hathi Parbat — elephant mountain — reaches 6,727 m in Chamoli district, named for the broad domed profile that reads like an elephant’s back from the south.

It shares a ridge with Ghori Parbat, and the pair are the recognisable skyline from the Valley of Flowers and the Bhyundar valley.

Trekkers on the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib route see it through most of the walk up from Ghangaria.

Seeing Hathi Parbat

Himalayan views are a morning business. On most of these viewpoints the range is clear at sunrise and gone into haze by eleven, and October to early December gives the cleanest air of the year. Tell us which peaks matter to you and we will plan the mornings around them.
