Kedarnath Peak rises to 6,940 m directly behind the Kedarnath temple, with Kedar Dome (6,831 m) beside it. It is the backdrop in almost every photograph of the shrine.

The peak sits at the head of the Mandakini valley in Rudraprayag district, and its glaciers feed the river that runs past Guptkashi and Sonprayag.

It is best seen on the final stretch of the trek up from Gaurikund, and again from Chandrashila summit across the valley.

Seeing Kedarnath Peak

Himalayan views are a morning business. On most of these viewpoints the range is clear at sunrise and gone into haze by eleven, and October to early December gives the cleanest air of the year. Tell us which peaks matter to you and we will plan the mornings around them.
