About Satopanth Lake Trek
Satopanth lake is a perfectly triangular glacial lake at 4,402 m above Mana village, the last inhabited settlement before the India–Tibet border. Hindu mythology holds that Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva each meditated at one of the three corners of the lake. The Alkapuri glacier feeds it from above.
The trail starts at Mana (3,200 m) — 3 km beyond Badrinath — and climbs steeply through meadows and boulder fields. The lake is often done as a 5-day extension after the Badrinath Char Dham visit. Most operators require trekkers to be fit with prior high-altitude walking experience due to the rapid altitude gain.
