- Winter snowfield trek (January–February) popular with photographers — Panchachuli at dawn in snow is iconic

Khaliya Top is a high meadow at 3,500 m in the Pithoragarh district, reached by a 6 km trail from Munsiyari. It offers what many consider the finest close-up view of the Panchachuli group (five peaks between 6,334 m and 6,904 m) available from a trail accessible to non-technical trekkers. The trail climbs through oak, rhododendron and birch forest before emerging onto open grassland with panoramic views that also include Nanda Devi, Rajrambha, Hardeol and Trishul. The meadow is used as a pasture by Bhotiya herders in summer.
In January and February the trail is snow-covered and popular with snowshoers; the Panchachuli peaks reflected at dawn in the snow make it a favourite winter photography destination. Spring (late April to June) brings rhododendron bloom and clear skies before the monsoon. Autumn (September–November) is also excellent. The trek takes 3–4 hours to the top and 2–3 hours back; most trekkers do it as a day hike from Munsiyari. Homestays in Munsiyari are the standard base; local guides and porters are easily arranged.

Background
History of Khaliya Top
Munsiyari sits at the historical trade junction between the Johar Valley (leading to Tibet via Milam Glacier) and the Gori Ganga valley. The Bhotiya people, who historically conducted trans-Himalayan trade, used the Johar route seasonally; Khaliya Top served as pasture for their herds on the high summer grazing grounds.
The trek to Khaliya Top became known to recreational trekkers in the 1990s as Munsiyari grew as a base for Milam and Ralam glacier treks. The winter photography potential — specifically the Panchachuli reflection in snow — brought the meadow to wider attention in the 2010s through travel magazines and photography communities.
