Birthi Falls is a 126-metre cascade in Pithoragarh district that drops into a deep gorge just a few metres from the road between Thal and Munsiyari. It is among the tallest and most accessible roadside waterfalls in Uttarakhand, requiring no more than a short walk down stone steps from a roadside parking area to reach a viewpoint at the base of the falls. The waterfall is fed by snowmelt and monsoon runoff from the ridges above, and its volume is most dramatic from July through September.

Birthi Falls is on the Pithoragarh–Munsiyari highway, 65 km from Pithoragarh and 36 km from Munsiyari. All Munsiyari-bound vehicles pass the falls. Look for the roadside sign and parking area.
Kathgodam (175 km) is the nearest major railhead. Take a bus or taxi to Pithoragarh (180 km) and a Munsiyari-bound vehicle to Birthi.
Pithoragarh's Naini Saini Airport (65 km from Birthi) has limited services. Pantnagar Airport (195 km) is the practical alternative.

History of Birthi Falls
Birthi Falls is formed by a tributary of the Ramganga East river as it plunges over a cliff face on the steep road between Pithoragarh and Munsiyari. The waterfall is fed by snowmelt from the high peaks above Munsiyari and by monsoon rainfall, making it highly seasonal — at peak flow in August–September it is one of the highest single-drop waterfalls in the Kumaon district at approximately 126 metres.
The Pithoragarh–Munsiyari road itself was constructed in the mid-20th century to provide access to the strategically important Johar valley bordering Tibet/China. The road opened up what had previously been accessible only by mule track, and Birthi Falls emerged as a natural attraction on this new route. Its dramatic visibility from the road made it a standard stop for travellers from the earliest days of motor access.
The name 'Birthi' refers to the small village above the falls on the plateau. The waterfall's fame has grown with increasing tourism to Munsiyari, and it now functions as an important supporting attraction on the Kumaon frontier tourism circuit rather than merely a scenic aside on the drive.
