When to go

Best time to visit Bageshwar

Summer / Spring (April to June)

Best time for Pindari and Kafni glacier treks (snow receding). Kausani views are excellent. Baghnath temple area is pleasant. Rhododendrons bloom in April across the surrounding forests.

Monsoon (July to September)

Glacier treks are not advised due to high rain and unstable trails. Baijnath temples are beautiful in the monsoon mist. The Saryu river swells dramatically. Good time for photography of lush forests and mist-covered valleys.

Autumn (October to November)

Post-monsoon offers the best Himalayan views from Kausani and trekking conditions are excellent. Pindari and Kafni glacier treks can be done until mid-November before snowfall blocks high passes. Bageshwar Uttarayan fair is held in January but autumn is ideal for sightseeing.

Winter (December to March)

Upper areas including glacier trek routes are snowbound and inaccessible. Bageshwar town (1,003 m) stays cool but manageable. The famous Uttarayan fair at Bageshwar is held in January–February and is a vibrant cultural event.

By Road

Bageshwar town is 440 km from Delhi via Haldwani and Almora. From Haldwani, Bageshwar is 145 km (4–5 hours). Kausani is 37 km from Bageshwar. KMOU buses connect Haldwani, Almora, and Kausani to Bageshwar. The road from Almora to Bageshwar via Kausani is particularly scenic.

By Train

Kathgodam Railway Station (145 km from Bageshwar) is the nearest railhead. Trains from New Delhi (Ranikhet Express: 6.5 hours) and Lucknow serve Kathgodam and the adjacent Haldwani station. From Kathgodam, taxis and shared jeeps cover the 145 km mountain road to Bageshwar.

By Air

Pantnagar Airport (180 km from Bageshwar) is the nearest airport. Flights connect Pantnagar to Delhi (Alliance Air and seasonal operators). Delhi IGI Airport (440 km) is the more reliable alternative for onward ground transport to Bageshwar via Haldwani.
