Trishul is a group of three peaks named for the trident of Shiva, the tallest at 7,120 m on the south-west rim of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary.

It holds a real place in mountaineering history: Trishul I was climbed in 1907 by Tom Longstaff’s party, the first summit above 7,000 m reached anywhere in the world.

Kausani gives the most famous view — the Trishul–Nanda Devi–Panchachuli panorama that Gandhi called the Switzerland of India. Roopkund and Bedni Bugyal trekkers walk directly beneath its south face.

Seeing Trishul

Himalayan views are a morning business. On most of these viewpoints the range is clear at sunrise and gone into haze by eleven, and October to early December gives the cleanest air of the year. Tell us which peaks matter to you and we will plan the mornings around them.
