Best time to visit Almora

Summer / Spring (March to June)

The finest season for Himalayan views from Kausani and Binsar. Rhododendrons bloom in March–April. Weather is pleasant (15–28°C). Ranikhet and Almora town are popular in May–June before monsoon. Jageshwar is beautiful with clear skies.

Monsoon (July to September)

Binsar forest is lush and atmospheric in monsoon. Views are obscured by clouds most days. Road to Kausani can be disrupted. Jageshwar temples look extraordinary amid monsoon mist. Suitable for those who enjoy forested solitude.

Autumn (October to November)

Arguably the best period — crystal clear post-monsoon skies deliver the finest Himalayan panoramas from Kausani and Binsar. Jageshwar is uncrowded and atmospheric. Kausani sunrise views of Nanda Devi in October are breathtaking.

Winter (December to February)

Cold but manageable at Almora (5–15°C). Binsar can see snow. Kausani in winter has snowcapped peaks visible with excellent clarity. Fewer tourists mean quieter guesthouses and more personal experiences. Jageshwar can be visited with warm clothing.

How to reach Almora

By Road

Almora is 374 km from Delhi via Moradabad–Rampur–Haldwani. The drive takes 9–10 hours. From Haldwani, Almora is 90 km (2.5 hours). Kausani is 52 km from Almora, Ranikhet is 50 km, and Binsar is 33 km. Regular KMOU buses and shared taxis connect Almora to Haldwani, Ranikhet, and Kausani.

By Train

Kathgodam Railway Station (90 km from Almora) is the nearest railhead. The Ranikhet Express and Shatabdi from New Delhi serve Kathgodam. From Kathgodam, taxis and buses cover the 90 km winding road to Almora (approximately 2.5–3 hours). Haldwani station (95 km from Almora) is an alternative with more train options.

By Air

Pantnagar Airport (125 km from Almora) is the closest airport, with limited flights to Delhi. For more reliable air access, Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun (370 km) or Delhi IGI Airport are used. Taxis from Pantnagar airport reach Almora in about 3.5 hours via Haldwani and the hill roads.
